Bootleg Vapors - Jacked Apple

Bootleg Vapors - Jacked Apple e-liquid
Kris Miller
Bootleg Vapor's Jacked Apple turns out to be a very pleasant surprise once it is properly steeped. While this tasty e-liquid is intended to taste like Apple Jacks cereal, I find it tastes like a fresh baked apple pie with lots of cinnamon and spice. Actually, it reminds me of an oven fresh apple turnover.

Apple Jacks is a multi-grain cereal made by Kellogg's that is made with apple and cinnamon. Its been a long time since I've had a bowl, so I really don't know if Jacked Apple tastes like the real thing or not. What I do know is that every time I vape Jacked Apple, I get a warm, sweet apple and cinnamon that brings an apple turnover to mind.

Jacked Apple goes well with morning coffee or after dinner.  It is also a great flavor to rotate with your all day vape as the cinnamon helps revive your taste buds when you have been vaping too much and vapor's tongue starts to set it. It is flavorful, sweet and delicious.

Like all of Bootleg Vapor's e-liquids, Jacked Apple is made to order.  You can purchase it in a variety of nicotine strengths, including zero nic, as well as a variety of PG.VG levels ranging from 100% PG to 80/20 VG/PG. Being that it is made to order, you have to give it time to steep in order to experience the full flavor. Once properly steeped, Jacked Apple is a wonderful flavor.

Bootleg Vapors - Red Velvet Cake

Red Velvet cake is my all time favorite cake. For those of you who are not familiar with it, red velvet cake is a bright red, or brown-red, cake topped and layered with cream cheese icing. It is made with buttermilk, butter, cocoa, flour and beetroot or red food coloring.

Red Velvet Cake e-juice
Hennem08
Red velvet cake is more than a cake, it is a legend. As told in The Vanishing Hitchhiker by Jan Brunvand, the legend goes like this: "Our friend, Dean Blair, got on a bus in San Jose one morning and shortly after, a lady got on the bus and started passing out these 3 x 5 cards with the recipe for “Red Velvet Cake.” She said she had recently been in New York and had dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria and had this cake. After she returned to San Jose, she wrote to the hotel asking for the name of the chef who had originated the cake, and if she could have the recipe.

Subsequently she received the recipe in the mail along with a bill for something like $350 from the chef. She took the matter to her attorney, and he advised her that she would have to pay it because she had not inquired beforehand if there would be a charge for the service, and if so, how much it would be. Consequently, she apparently thought this would be a good way to get even with the chef."

There are many variations of this story, and as a result, the red velvet cake is also known as Waldorf-Astoria Cake, $100 Cake, $200 Cake etc. It is believed that the cake was originally served at the Waldorf Astoria in the 1920s. In any case, red velvet cake is a very rich and delicious cake.

I was really excited when I found out there are e-liquid versions of Red Velvet Cake out there. I was able to get a bottle from Bootleg Vapors. I let it steep until the clear liquid took on a yellowish tone.  I have to say, it is an interesting flavor. My first impression was that it truly tastes like cake. I get the cocoa undertones but most all get "cake" and cream cheese when I inhale. It's not the same as eating a moist piece of red velvet cake, but as far as flavor goes, it's pretty accurate.

Bootleg Vapors - The 420 Series

I usually don't review e-juice in groups as I prefer to review each e-liquid individually. I am making in exception in this case. I have a baggie full of Bootleg Vapor 420 juice.  It was their 420 line which attracted me to their site in the first place.  I was curious about 420 e-liquids.  I wanted to know if they really taste like the real thing. I bought every 420 flavor they had on their menu at the time.  They have since added a few more flavors and they sent me a few of those as well.

Marijuana Plane: 420 e-juice
CTU
First, why 420?  Have you ever wondered why marijuana or ganja e-liquid is referred to as a "420" flavor? I had to find out.  The first thing I learned is that the term "420" is celebrated by pot smokers every April 4th. According to David Emery, writing for Urban Legends, "What 420 is, whether expressed in the form 4:20 (as a time of day), 4/20 (as a calendar date), or just the unadorned numeral (pronounced "four-twenty"), is a universal, unofficial symbol for the use and appreciation of marijuana. In fact, 4/20 (April 20) has come to be known in certain circles as "Marijuana Appreciation Day," or simply "Weed Day."

In the early 1970s, a small group of pot smokers at San Rafael High School in California, known as "The Waldos",  met at 4:20 pm everyday to get high. The
term "420" became a code for "time to light up." The phrase spread and eventually High Times magazine began to use it. It is now known throughout the world.

There are a few companies that sell "420" flavored e-liquids.  These e-juices are made with marijuana or cannabis flavoring. They do not contain THC, the active ingredient in pot.  They will not get you high.  These e-liquids were created to taste like the real thing. They are designed for people who like the taste of marijuana.
This bottle has been steeping for a few months.  It has a strong marijuana smell. It is an earthy flavor and tastes a bit like pine or a Christmas tree. It is very smooth and produces huge clouds of vapor. Marijuana is a weed and tastes earthy and woodsy.  Mary Jane 420 does as well. It smells and tastes like pine, so you are either going to love it or hate it, depending upon your expectations. I find if you drip it, rather than vape it out of a tank, it tastes less like pine and more like the real thing.

Apple 420

Apple 420 smells like apples and pine trees. The flavor really comes forth if you let it steep for quite awhile. Like Mary Jane 420, this e-liquid produces tons of vapor. Apple 420 is not as bold as Mary Jane 420, but is a very pleasant tasting vape. The apple flavoring seems to tone the piney cannabis flavoring down a bit. This is a nice sweet apple vape with a cannabis twist. The apple flavor adds a nice subtle touch to the underlying cannabis base.

Orange 420

The product description reads "Our take on Mary Jane...with a hint of orange."  Hmmm, to me, it tastes like orange juice with a hint of Mary Jane. I like it. This is one of the best orange flavored e-liquids I have ever tasted. It tastes like a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice with a cannabis twist. As with the Apple 420, the fruit flavoring tones down the piney cannabis flavoring. This is a tasty combination. I would never have dreamed of combining marijuana and orange juice.  It works!

Purple Sticky 420

Purple Sticky is a grape flavored 420 e-liquid. It tastes like Purple Jolly Rancher on the inhale and grape flavored cannabis on the exhale. Again, this one tastes like pine at first but if you let it steep a few months, it tastes a lot like the real thing.

Blueberry 420

Blueberry 420 has a strong pine scent. The cannabis flavoring is really strong, coupled with sweet and subtle blueberry undertones.  Blueberry 420 is earthy and sweet. At times the blueberry is the dominant flavor and at other times the 420 flavoring dominates. If you allow this e-liquid, as well as the others, to steep for a long time, the flavor becomes more like marijuana and less piney. If you want a real marijuana taste experience, buy a bottle, put it away and forget about it for a few months. Steeping makes a huge difference.

Trainwreck 420

It's a Trainwreck!  I'm getting tons of vapor from this sweet tasting 420 flavor. It's as though a pine tree met a bowl of exotic fruit and exploded in my mouth. This is a very fruity flavor with a nice cannabis undertone. It's incredibly sweet and smooth. Trainwreck is a sativa-dominant cannabis strain that is said to hit you so hard that you don't see it coming. It's an earthy, pine and lemon flavored strain that usually makes people cough. Bootleg Vapor's version of Trainwreck is very smooth and fruity.  There is no coughing here, just a lot of fruity 420 flavor.

Raspberry Kush

Raspberry Kush is a bold tobacco flavor e-liquid. I think all of Bootleg's 420 e-liquids have a little tobacco in them, but in this case it is the predominant flavor. Think of Raspberry Kush as tobacco laced with marijuana with a raspberry twist. Raspberry Kush is a cannabis strain that has a raspberry and cream-like aroma.  It's said to make people feel a lazy. It is good for listening to music or creating art. It is described as sweet tasting and smells like berries and diesel. (Diesel is another strain of marijuana that tastes and smells like lemon-lime with a splash of diesel fuel). Although Bootleg Vapor's Raspberry Kush contains hints of lemon and lime, I am not getting anything in the way of diesel fuel, which is fine with me. What I am getting is tobacco with subtle hints of raspberry and a cannabis twist.

Note:

I tried two or three of these e-liquids in a plastic tank and thought they were awful. I suggest investing in a pyrex tank if you plan on vaping 420 flavors. In addition, I noticed that the 420 e-liquids really gunked up my coils. For the best experience, try dripping these e-liquids.

Please note, there are no active ingredients in any of these liquids.  There is no THC whatsoever. These are marijuana flavorings, not marijuana. Maybe if marijuana is ever legalized in all 50 states, we will start seeing naturally extracted marijuana liquid containing THC, but that day has yet to come.

Bootleg Vapors - Vanilla Cola

Bootleg Vapor's Vanilla Cola e-liquid smells so much like the real thing, you almost want to drink it. I am not kidding, it smells like a tiny bottle of cola.

The idea of mixing vanilla and cola originated in the 1940s. Back in the day of the soda fountain, soda jerks would add vanilla syrup to coke upon request. This was a common practice in ice cream shops and soda fountains for years on end. In the 2000s, Pepsi released a vanilla flavored cola called Pepsi Vanilla.  Coca Cola release Vanilla Coke soon after.

Well, I don't taste much in the way of vanilla but I do taste the fizz and the cola. Don't get me wrong, the vanilla flavoring is not missing, it just takes a backseat to the cola flavoring, which it should.

I find that Bootleg Vapor's Vanilla Cola is a good substitute for the real thing. I love the taste of cola but try not to drink it much anymore.  Now that I can vape it, I don't have to feel like I am missing out on a flavor I really love.

Bootleg Vapors - Mint Chocolate Chip

wikipedia
Bootleg Vapor's Mint Chocolate Chip e-liquid is a mint flavored chocolate e-juice that tastes similar to candies like Andes mints, York Peppermint Patties and Junior Mints, to name a few.

This is not a chocolate chip mint ice cream e-liquid. It does not taste like ice cream at all, and it's not meant to. Mint Chocolate Chip is meant to taste like the minty chocolate chips found in chocolate chip mint ice cream, and it does.

Mint Chocolate Chip e-liquid makes for a fantastic after dinner vape. It is neither a subtle flavor, nor a bold flavor.  It is just right and the minty after taste leaves your mouth feeling fresh and clean. Chocolate is a difficult flavor to work with when mixing e-juice.  Bootleg Vapors got it right with this one. If you are looking for a nice chocolate mint vaping experience, give Bootleg Vapor's Mint Chocolate Chip e-juice a try.  It is yummy good!

Bootleg Vapors - Apple Cinnamon

Bootleg Vapor's Apple Cinnamon e-liquid is a pleasant blend of apple and cinnamon flavorings.  It's hard to say which is the dominant flavor as neither flavor is over powering.  The apple flavor reminds me of an autumn apple cider more so than an apple. This e-liquid reminds me of a cinnamon spice apple cider.

apple flavored e-liquid
RM Hermen
The difference between apple juice and cider is not well established in the United States and Canada. In these two countries, the term "hard cider" is used to describe a fermented alcoholic beverage made from apples.  Throughout the rest of the world, this same fermented beverage is known as "cider." In the U.S. and Canada, the difference between apple juice and cider is filtration rather than fermentation. Fresh apple cider is raw apple juice that has not been filtered or pasteurized while apple juice has undergone both processes.

No matter the difference, Bootleg Vapor's Apple Cinnamon is a delicious apple and cinnamon flavored e-juice. It produces lots of tasty vapor and should please the taste buds of anyone who likes cinnamon vapes or natural apple flavoring. This is not an apple candy type of apple flavoring, but a natural tasting apple flavor.  Like I said, it reminds me of cinnamon spiced apple cider.

Bootleg Vapors - Berry Cherry Blast

Bootleg Vapor's Berry Cherry Blast e-juice produces lots of tasty fruit flavored vapor. Berry Cherry Blast is a fine blend of Black Cherry, Watermelon and Blueberry flavorings with a hit of cool ice to make it a refreshing treat. The black cherry is the dominant flavor on the inhale with the watermelon and blueberry kicking in shortly after.  There is just enough "ice" to make this a cool and refreshing vape without crossing the line into the menthol vape category.  Bootleg sure did a good job blending these ingredients together.

The combination of black cherry, blueberry and watermelon really works well together. This is a sweet, rather than a tart, fruity blend. The addition of a hint of ice takes it up a notch and knocks it out of the park. This is one fruit vape I can see myself going back to time and time again. If you enjoy tasty, refreshing fruit vapes, give this one a try.

Bootleg Vapors - Twisted Tobacco

Bootleg Vapor's Twisted Tobacco is a creamy smooth tobacco based e-liquid blended with caramel cappuccino, Irish cream and mocha. Although it's called Twisted tobacco, the coffee flavoring is what really stands out. This is not a sweet vape, it's like a cup of java with a tiny bit of sugar.

a cup of cappuccino
Jazzbobrown
So, let's take a look at the ingredients. A cappuccino is an Italian coffee drink that is traditionally made with espresso, hot milk, and steamed-milk foam. Add a bit of caramel flavoring and you now have a caramel cappuccino.

Irish cream is a cream liqueur made from Irish whiskey, cream and other ingredients such as coffee. Some recipes call for sweetened condensed milk or evaporated milk rather than cream.

Mocha is a chocolate flavored coffee. The mocha coffee bean is derived from the coffee species Coffea arabica, which is native to Ethiopia and Yemen. It is a small, hard bean that ranges from a pale yellow to olive green color, and tastes like a chocolate flavored coffee.

Add these three coffee flavorings together and blend it with a smooth tobacco base and you have a mighty fine Twisted Tobacco.  Coffee aficionados will likely enjoy this juice whether they like tobacco or not, as the tobacco flavoring is buried deep in the background.  Those looking for a bold tobacco vape with a coffee twist may be a bit disappointed. The tobacco flavoring is there, but it is not the predominant flavor.

Bootleg Vapors - The Bomb

J bomb e-liquid
Scott MacGregor

Does Jagerbomb ring a bell? A Jagerbomb is an alcoholic beverage that is mixed by dropping a shot of Jagermeister into a glass of beer or into a glass of Red Bull . The beer or energy drink is served in a pint sized glass along with a shot glass full of Jagermeister. The shot glass is then dropped into the beer or energy drink.

Bootleg Vapor's The Bomb is described as "The wonderful flavors of that 'pick me up' drink mixed with the great licorice shot."

This is a clear e-juice that produces a hefty amount of vapor and tastes pleasant and mildly sweet. As incredible as it may seem, I have never once tasted an energy drink, so I cannot tell you if it tastes like Red Bull, the most popular energy drink in the world, or not.

The Bomb is a mild vape that produces tons of vapor.  Subtle hints of licorice blend with tart fruity flavoring. Citrus and bubble gum are my guess. This is a sweet, tasty vape that is easy and pleasant to vape. By easy, I mean it tastes good enough to vape all day.

Bootleg Vapors - Apple Moonshine

If your name is Bootleg Vapors, you better have a still and some Moonshine!

After changing their name from Exotic Vapors to Bootleg Vapors, Bootleg Vapors went to work creating their signature flavor - Moonshine. For those of you who do not know, Moonshine is a very potent alcoholic beverage. It is also known as White Lightening, Mountain Dew, Hooch and Tennessee White Whiskey. It is usually made in the backwoods of states like Kentucky and Tennessee. It is very potent, and illegal as well, as it is not regulated by the FDA and the people who make it do it in secret, shunning laws and regulations, as well as not paying taxes. For more information about Moonshine visit http://www.ibiblio.org/moonshine/index.html

Glass of Moonshine
So, what does Moonshine taste like?  Lighter fluid? Rubbing alcohol? How about Everclear? It's been a long time since my one and only Moonshine experience. I don't really remember what it tasted like, but do know everyone got trashed.

Bootleg Vapors have a Moonshine Creator on their site.  Being that Moonshine is known to be a bit harsh,  people like to add a bit of flavoring to it in order to make it more palatable.  Using Bootleg Vapor's Moonshine creator, you can add any of 30 flavors, ranging from apple to watermelon, to your brew.

I am vaping a sample of Apple Moonshine which they sent me. It's quite nice.  It produces huge amounts of vapor and is very smooth. While not as potent as backwoods Moonshine, it's a nice flavor. I'm actually glad that it doesn't taste like lighter fluid or rubbing alcohol.

Bootleg Vapors - Spiked Egg Nog

It's that Eggnog time of the year.  Once the holidays are over, everyone will be forgetting about this type of flavor until next year.  So, once again, I am reviewing an e-juice without steeping it first.

Spiked EggnogEggnog is a sweetened dairy based beverage that is made with milk or cream, sugar, and whipped eggs. It is often topped with cinnamon, nutmeg or pumpkin spice, and is often laced with rum, whiskey, vodka or brandy. Eggnog is very popular in the U.S. and Canada and is usually associated with Christmas.

It is said that eggnog was popular among the aristocracy in Britain who mixed it with brandy, Madeira or sherry. Brandy and wine were both heavily taxed in the English colonies during the 18th century, so colonists mixed it with rum from the Caribbean. In 1800, Isaac Weld published a book titled Travels Through the States of North America and the Provinces of Upper and Lower Canada, during the years 1795, 1796 and 1797. In it, Weld writes, "The American travellers, before they pursued their journey, took a hearty draught each, according to custom, of egg-nog, a mixture composed of new milk, eggs, rum, and sugar, beat up together..." Rum became scarce during the American Revolution, so whiskey was often used in its place.

I have both a bottle of Eggnog e-juice and a bottle of Spiked Egg Nog e-juice from Bootleg Vapors. I've had the plain Eggnog e-juice for quite awhile. I let it steep, tried it, and really wasn't sure what I thought about it, so I put it aside. According to my notes, I thought it was "creamy and sweet, but maybe a tad bit too sweet." The Spiked Egg Nog e-juice arrived in the mail yesterday afternoon.  It has not had time to steep, but right off the bat I felt it tastes more interesting than Eggnog alone.

Both of these e-liquids are creamy and sweet.  What sets the two options apart is that the Spiked Egg Nog is just that, spiked with rum flavoring and spices.  I think I detect cinnamon and nutmeg, though it may be nutmeg alone.  In any case, the "spikiness" makes the Spiked Egg Nog the hands down winner when it comes to flavor.

Bootleg Vapors - Beetle Juice

There are hundreds of e-juice makers out there offering a flavor called Beetle Juice.  I see it all of the time when browsing e-liquid menus. It almost seems like if you are going to sell e-juice, you have to have Beetle Juice in your line-up.  I also find when sampling other fruit blends, when I ask other people what they think they taste like, I get "like Beetle Juice" for an answer.  That doesn't help me as I have never tried anyone's Beetle Juice, until now.

Beetle Juice - Bootleg VaporsI have to say, my first impression is that Bootleg Vapor's Beetle e-juice is light, refreshing and very pleasant. It's definitely sweet and fruity. Don't let the product's photo fool you, I don't think there is any lemon or lime flavoring in this juice. I can taste pineapple and strawberry and hmmmm, what else?  There is something else going on.

Taking a peek at the product description it appears that Beetle Juice is a raspberry, mango, pineapple and strawberry blend. The pineapple is the predominate flavor in my opinion. But then again, it seems to change depending upon which part of my tongue it hits first. Sometimes the berries predominate.  It's kind of interesting how it does that. In any case, these four flavors work very well together. No one flavor overpowers the others even though one or another may be the first flavor you pick up on.

Beetle Juice doesn't seem to produce the same amount of vapor as some of Bootleg's other juices. And I am not getting much in the way of a throat hit but that is to be expected as I ordered the zero mg version. The vapor is adequate, but not something I can easily blow smoke rings with. In any case, flavor is what matters most to me and Beetle Juice is very flavorful.

Ok, Beetle Juice wins.  I've never been inclined to try Beetle Juice (by Bootleg Vapors or any other company).  This sample won me over.  I have to admit, I like it.

Bootleg Vapors - Bootleg Red

I had no idea what to expect when I filled my tank with Bootleg Red.  I was guessing it might be some kind of cinnamon flavor liquid.  I was so wrong.  It is a tobacco blend.  No fancy fruits or spices here, but rather a straight up tobacco flavor.

Zwei zigaretten
Geierunited
Bootleg Red is smooth and mild. There is no mistaking it as anything other than tobacco.  Being that they are using the word "Red" in the name, I am guessing it's their rendition of Marlboro Red, but that is an assumption, not a fact. In the past, we reviewed "Cowboy" when Bootleg Vapor was operating under the "Exotic Vapors" name. "Cowboy" was described as a Marlboro Red flavor but we thought it was perfumy like a Marlboro Light.

Bootleg Red does not have that same perfumy quality. Looking at the product page, it is a brand new flavor designed to taste like a cigarette.  Bootleg Vapor does not mention any particular brand of cigarette.

I like it and think it tastes a lot better than some of the tobacco flavors I have tried in the past.  It seems like they are using a different flavoring agent, but I can't be too sure. It just seems that way. Bootleg Red tastes like a light cigarette rather than a full flavored one. This may or may not be related to the amount of time it has been steeping.  I find that Bootleg Vapor's juices tend to get better and better with age.  This one has been steeping about two weeks.  I am going to put it back in the steeping cabinet and try it again in a few weeks.  We will update you if it turns into a full flavored cigarette flavor.

Personally, I am hoping it does not develop into a more full flavored tobacco flavor.  When I smoked, I smoked light cigarettes and ultra-light cigarettes, so it's nice to find something that doesn't taste like a Camel non-filter, Pell Mell, Lucky Strike or a pipe or cigar for that matter.  It's nice to find a decent tasting tobacco flavor that is smooth, mild and more like a light cigarette than a full bodied one.

Oh, and one more thing, it produces quite a bit of vapor, adding to the overall "smoking" experience.

Bootleg Vapors - Raspberry & Cream

Bootleg Vapor's Raspberry & Cream is such a pretty color liquid. I enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoy vaping it. In the bottle it is a bubblegum pink color.  In my Kanger Pro 2 it looks more like a raspberry liqueur or a half a shot of Schnapps.

Red raspberries
Raspberry & Cream is light and mild, yet tasty. The cream seems to be the predominate flavor with the raspberry undertone creeping up and kicking in once you are just about ready to exhale.

There are so many things this juice reminds me of: raspberry cream soda (without the fizz), raspberry ripple ice cream, raspberries covered with whipped cream, a raspberry milkshake...

I think this is a juice I could vape all day. I seem to be vaping a lot of fruit flavors lately.  This one is really enjoyable. And it produces lots and lots of vapor.

Bootleg Vapors - Pumpkin Pie

As you know, pumpkin pie is a traditional dessert that is very popular during the fall and early winter holiday season.  It is usually served at Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well as any old day in between. Not all pumpkin pies are created equal, but most consist of a pumpkin based custard blended with spices such as cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and ginger.

Bootleg Vapors Pumpkin Pie e-juice
by Evan Amos
In honor of Thanksgiving, I decided to pull Bootleg Vapor's Pumpkin Pie out of the steeping cabinet a wee bit early. What a pleasant surprise.  The pie is ready to be devoured! While not a bold in your face vape, it's quite flavorful and all of the elements of a spicy pumpkin pie filling seem to be present.

As the vapor floats across my taste buds, I taste pumpkin accompanied by subtle hints of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg, and possibly ginger as well. I'm not getting much of anything that reminds me of pie crust. And i don't think they bothered adding any whipped cream on top. These omissions don't seem to matter as far as I'm concerned.  The spicy pumpkin flavoring is a delight.

After taking a trip to Bootleg Vapor's website to grab a link for you, I cannot find Pumpkin Pie. I picked the bottle back up and it says Pumpkin Pie right on it. A search on the word "pumpkin" brings up Pumpkin. I guess they realized they were missing the crust and rather than tinker with a good thing, dropped the pie part from the name.

Update: Fast forward several months. It is now April, about six months later. I had put my bottle of Bootleg Vapor's Pumpkin Pie e-liquid back in the steeping cabinet after writing this review. I was digging around for something interesting to vape and decided a little Pumpkin Pie might be nice. OMG!!! What a difference six months makes. This e-liquid has matured and is now quite a bold pumpkin pie flavoring. I can not get over the difference and good it is. Of course, I am dripping it now as well.  Between steeping and dripping, this is like a brand new flavor experience. I'm thinking I should buy another bottle now so it will taste like this when the holiday season comes back around. This is better than a real pumpkin pie.  And it's nice and spicy.
